What are the processing methods of graphite

The requirements of modern graphite processing industry for graphite products have developed in two aspects: one is to require large crystal flakes to achieve high purity, and the other is to require ultra-fine graphite product particles (such as less than 1 μm or 0.5 μm). China has established graphite purification and fine powder processing production lines in Nanshu, Beishu, Liumao, Xinghe and other graphite processing plants. The purification method is mainly chemical purification. The mature process of graphite chemical purification is to use caustic alkali and graphite to melt at 700 ℃, wash to neutrality, and then add hydrochloric acid treatment and washing, so that the carbon content of graphite reaches 98%-99%. There are also manufacturers who use hydrofluoric acid treatment to produce high-purity graphite.

2. Mineral processing method of crystalline graphite

Crystalline graphite has good floatability, and flotation method is basically used for beneficiation in China. Since the size of graphite flakes is one of its important quality indicators, multi-stage grinding and multiple sorting processes are adopted in the sorting method to select large flake graphite as soon as possible. Commonly used collectors in flotation are kerosene, diesel oil, etc., foaming agents are No. 2 oil, No. 4 oil, etc., and regulators are lime and sodium carbonate.

3. Cryptocrystalline graphite mineral processing method

Cryptocrystalline graphite crystals are small, so it is also called microcrystalline graphite. Graphite particles are often embedded in clay, and separation is difficult. Due to the high grade of raw ore (generally 60% - 80% carbon content), many graphite mines directly pulverize the mined ore and sell graphite powder products. Hunan Lutang Graphite Mine established a flotation plant to flotate microcrystalline graphite in the 1950s, but the production was stopped due to the high cost. At present, some units are still conducting research on new technology of microcrystalline graphite flotation (such as oil agglomeration flotation, etc.).

Graphite electrodes are widely used in the graphite processing industry. Graphite is believed to be familiar to everyone. Next, Jinglong Special Carbon will share with you how graphite electrodes are used in the graphite processing industry.

Graphite processed products maintain the original chemical properties of flake graphite, namely acid resistance, corrosion resistance and physical properties, namely high temperature resistance of 3000 °C and low temperature resistance of -204 °C. Its compressive strength is greater than 800kg/Cm2, and it is resistant to oxidation. The weight loss is 1%, and the rebound rate is 15-50% (density 1.1-1.5). It also has strong self-lubricating properties. Therefore, graphite products have been widely used in metallurgy, chemical industry, petrochemical industry, high energy physics, aerospace, electronics and so on.

Key words: high purity graphite, large size and fine structure
